Cause and Defect
I scratched my hand up today. I probably should have seen it coming.
Why?
See, I was swinging around my keychain a little too carelessly and nicked myself in the process.
Why?
The thing is, I was getting frustrated because I kept forgetting that Jenna's car won't start in Park, you have to turn the key, put the car in neutral, start the engine and then shift into drive. Or reverse, and I kept forgetting about that.
Why?
It came up because I don't normally drive her car, but I've had to take it in to work the last couple of days.
Why?
The reason for that is that my car needs to be taken into the dealer for repairs, instead of just the local repair place we've been going.
Why?
Well, Jenna did try the local repair place yesterday, but they didn't have the equipment to fix the problem.
Why?
Well, the problem had to do with the electrical system that is better off being looked at by a dealer, i.e. that anytime you try to replace the dome light fuse, it shorts out immediately.
Why?
We deduced that it was a fuse after the dome light, radio, and keyless entry stopped working, instead of the problem we were having before: being unable to adjust the volume on the radio.
Why?
It was probably the loud Cloud Cult CD that burned out the fuse, since you could only listen to music on loud or books on quiet.
Why?
The RIAA hate people listening to things and like to make listeners suffer.
Why?
Probably because they know we wouldn't do anything about it.
Why?
Because despite our near involuntary, repeated efforts to turn the volume down, we could not. The only two options were loud or off. And I didn't want to turn it off.
Why?
It's a long trip and hard to stay awake when it's so quiet.
Why?
I was tired, and resigned to the fact that I could just learn to live with loud music for a while.
Why?
The volume had been acting funny ever since I reinstalled the CD player, after having ripped it out of the car.
Why?
I needed to rip it out, see, to get all of the quarters out, because I couldn't reach them all with a knife.
Why?
The story there is that Aaron found $1.50 worth of quarters and poked them all into the CD slot.
Why?
He's been interested in money lately, and watching it go places it doesn't belong, such as in the vent or down the drain, and we should have known to watch him, but we didn't.
Why?
The thing is, he's been so busy lately that we thought that he'd be OK sitting in the car, seatbelt off, with no keys, while we unloaded a couple bags of groceries.
Why?
The kitchen is right next to the garage, so we kept one eye sort of on him the whole time we unpacked the bags, we were just a dollar and a half late to get out to him.
Why?
I forgot to put the hamburgers in the fridge instead of the freezer and it took a dollar and a half for me to remember and put them in the fridge with the Polish sausage.
Why?
We wanted some food for grilling.
Why?
Because the weather was nice.
Why?
Global warming, probably. Who knows?
And so I nicked my hand, even though events have been playing up to this for the last week and a half. But now I've learned something: Don't freeze the burgers if you're planning to eat them!
May you all learn from my mistake.
